Happy Birthday, Halo!

Today is Halo's 2-year-old birthday... though not exactly. When I bought her, they told me she was born sometime in April of 2007, probably around Easter weekend. So I just picked Easter as her birthday, and it's what I put on her registration papers. The breeder didn't offer me an alternate date of birth. Since he signed the breeder's certificate, it's pretty much official. There has to be a day to celebrate! For her birthday she got a beautiful Dale Chavez show halter, and a piece of carrot cake which she promptly spit out and proceeded to smear all over the hitching rail.

Poor Halo also got a swollen eye for her birthday, but the barn owner helped me treat it with some antibiotic/steroid ointment, and we also gave her some bute for the pain and swelling. Hopefully she will be better soon, but they'll medicate her in the meantime.

She's come a long way from the scraggly little filly I bought last year!

That looks like a high-dollar halter there. Very nice. Mmm, carrot cake -- my fave!

Yeah, the halter cost more than any item of clothing I own. Fortunately I bought it used. If I bought it new, it would have cost more than I paid for Halo! Ouch.

Two: a nice milestone for a youngster!

It's interesting trying to find a treat they'll like. My colt doesn't like apples, bananas, or peppermints. He just likes his Equine Junior. Too bad they can't pay him to endorse it.

The first thing Halo decided she liked other than her Equine Junior were carrots. Then she slowly started liking apples. She usually won't eat horse cookies, but I bet she'll start liking them as she gets older. Just like a kid...they start out picky eaters and get better as they get older!

You realize Easter is on a different date every year, right? She looks so much different. I don't realize how much she's grown until I see her before and after pictures together.

Yep - April 8 was Easter in 2007. I'm sticking with that. :)
